Benefits of gaming?: Games may seem purely recreational, but the benefits of games are recognized by and celebrated at libraries, and even encouraged by the American Library Association (check out their “Games in Libraries” blog). Those benefits include education, recreation, sportsmanship, problem solving, and strategy. Role-playing games allow players to collaboratively use their imagination to tell stories. Games can bring together different age groups, forcing you to put down electronic devices while creating memories and traditions.

Molkky is based on a centuries-old game called kyykka, which originated between Russia and Finland in the province of Karelia. After a period of unrest in the early 20th century, a wave of immigrants moved from Karelia to Finland, bringing kyykka with them. A portable, more accessible version of the game was released in the 1990s. This game came to be known as molkky, and has been enjoyed by families worldwide for more than 20 years. In molkky, players toss a throwing stick (called a molkky) at a series of pins in order to score points. The player to score exactly 50 points is the winner.
