The Keokuk Public Library will be closed until Monday, April 13th during this National Emergency of COVID-19.
While the library has always been proud of its role as a public gathering place, a place where information, history, culture, and entertainment could be freely shared, we are at a time when we need to radically change how we serve the public and encourage social distancing.
All library programs and room reservations have been cancelled until 4/13, and the doors have been shut.
We have renewed all library accounts that have expired this year, and are set to expire in the next 3 months. Those cards now expire on 6/16/2020, to ensure uninterrupted access to e-resources.
All items currently checked out were renewed for 3 months, so that library patrons don't have to worry about renewing them, returning them, or accumulating fines. All items (DVDs included) are due on 6/16/2020.
The library asks that you please keep your items at home during this National Emergency, so as not to overwhelm our drop box (which we will continue to empty).
The library’s wi-fi internet remains on and is accessible outside, near the building’s entrances and parking lot.
A new type of library card has been created for Keokuk and Lee county citizens to enjoy our online subscriptions, just for the COVID-19 emergency.
Ages 6 and older can sign up for a temporary Online Only Library Account – just visit www.keokuklibrary.org/online-only-library-card.
No need for IDs and signatures - just fill out the form and we'll set you up to use the library from home. Please allow us at least 1-3 days. If your regular library card is denied on Bridges/OverDrive because of an old fine or overdue item, or you have forgotten your password, please apply for an Online Only account.
With an Only Online account you can use many library resources. Visit https://bridges.overdrive.com on a web browser, or download the Libby or OverDrive app to your device to read e-books and magazines, and to listen to audiobooks. With an Online Only card you can use everything on the Online Databases page of our website from home - keokuklibrary.org/online-databases. You’ll find Gale (magazines, newspapers, and the Chilton library) and CREDO encyclopedias. We subscribe to Brainfuse’s HelpNow, JobNow, and VetNow, with opportunities for distance education. And you can learn many new languages with our subscription to Transparent Language.
Genealogy and Local History databases are also available, with links on our website (keokuklibrary.org/genealogy-local-history).
Unfortunately Ancestry.com’s library subscriptions are limited to library buildings. You can only access our Ancestry subscription if you are connected to our wi-fi. Pull up to the building, visit www.keokuklibrary.org/genealogy-local-history and click the link to connect.
You can search our Fold3 military records database from home!
The director will be setting up a way to request e-books from the KPL instead of the Bridges consortium, to expedite your e-book and audiobook requests, and we will explore adding more online services as soon as we are able. The library is working to update its website, and will share news and information regularly on Facebook and through the Daily Gate City.
