Library Highlights Online Genealogy and Local History Resources

While the Keokuk Public Library is closed to readers and researchers, genealogy and local history buffs are encouraged to check out www.keokuklibrary.org/genealogy-local-history for links to free online resources and digitized collections.

The library also subscribes to Ancestry.com Library Edition and Fold 3 military records databases. Ancestry’s Library Edition was restricted to library computers and library wi-fi, but after COVID-19 they have responded with temporary remote access to library customers. For a limited time, Lee County, Iowa residents can login to Ancestry from home with a link and a password. Fold3 requires a library card number or an Online Only account number. Those that sign up for Online Only accounts will be automatically sent links and passwords for all online resources; existing cardholders can contact reference@keokuk.lib.ia.us via email for the login information.

The library would like to remind Keokuk and Lee County residents (ages 6 and up) that they can sign up for an “Online Only” library card, which are (so far) set to expire in six months. Fill out a simple form (www.keokuklibrary.org/online-only-library-card) and library staff will email you a card number and password, which will give you access to a number of online library subscriptions. Existing cardholders with large fines and overdue items, that were or are blocked from accessing library resources, are also encouraged to apply. This is a special card available to all Lee County citizens, created just for this National Emergency.

Questions about library accounts, passwords, and other reference questions can be sent to reference@keokuk.lib.ia.us.
