Position Title: Youth Services
Employer/Library: Keokuk Public Library
FT or PT: Full-Time
Hours: 37.5 per week; day and evening shifts, rotating weekends.
Salary: $19.71 per hour
Keokuk Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative Youth Services Librarian to join our team. The right candidate for this job will be savvy in early literacy, play-based learning, and youth literature.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has responsibility for management of youth services. The person holding this position participates in all library operations as necessary to insure high levels of service to the community.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Plans and presents library programs for children, with an emphasis on 0-5 year-olds, as well as tween and teen programs. Assists outside groups in planning and presenting appropriate children and young adult programs using library facilities.
Promotes and publicizes programs through flyers, press releases, social media posts, and other outlets as necessary.
Prepares reports and monitors statistics related to youth services.
Maintains familiarity with policies and procedures, and understands and effectively uses standard library materials, including the online catalog and electronic resources.
Serves as a resource person for the staff and patrons in youth services, and serves as a primary contact person in cooperative efforts between the public library and local schools and children and young adult organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or five years of public library experience, including work in youth services, or any equivalent as approved by the director. Knowledge or willingness to learn technical aspects relating to virtual programming and social media promotion.
